The word ʻohana means family in the Hawaiian language. A simple definition of family is…a group of people who love and care for each other. Over the past four years Camp Harmattan has partnered with Central Alberta Women’s Emergency Shelter (CAWES) to host a retreat for women and children who would otherwise not have this type of opportunity. We call this retreat Ohana Camp. For each retreat we welcome up to 14 families on to our site to participate in a relaxing time of activities including playing in the river, crafts, archery, axe throwing, climbing wall, field games, campfires, a movie night, ladies pampering and more. We offer this time completely free to these families and include all accommodations, meals, snacks and transportation. We hope that this time will be a time of respite for the moms and allow the children to experience a family camp where they get to have fun and try some new activities.
